Why Did I Get Married?

Metta is recognised as a leading commercial and civil litigator in the Bahamas. Held in high regard by the judiciary and her peers, her submissions in several cases have precipitated amendments to the law. She regularly appears before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal and has also appeared before the Privy Council in the UK.
Recognised as a leading Family law specialist she is frequently instructed for high net worth international clients who have retired to The Bahamas or have assets here. She deals with divorces, financial provision claims, custody and access disputes and is frequently engaged to negotiate and prepare Pre and Post Nuptial Agreements.

Jennifer is a Legal Director and Head of the International Family Law Team and leads the firm’s Modern Family Team. She has experience in dealing with complex financial remedy proceedings arising from divorce and civil partnership dissolution, including those with family businesses, tax issues, trusts (including offshore trusts), significant pensions and offshore companies. Jennifer also has experience of advising upon and drafting nuptial agreements (pre- and post-nuptial agreements) for HNW and UHNW clients, as well as advising upon cohabitation agreements and using various forms of alternate dispute resolution, including arbitration.

Judith is the managing partner of Graham Thompson. Formerly a litigation partner concentrating on family law, she focuses on high-net-worth private clients, and negotiations with the government on large investment projects. Her practice areas include private clients, trusts and estates, property and development, and immigration and naturalisation. Judith is a member of The Bahamas Bar Association, the International Bar Association, and the board of directors of The Lyford Cay Foundations Inc, and a director of Bahamas First Holdings Limited. She has served in corporate governance capacities in the financial services industry and in the role of Acting Supreme Court Justice, and is a former director of the World Services Group.

Michelle Petty-Horton’s practice areas include Family Law, Wills and Administration of Estates and Personal Injury Law. Michelle completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Lancaster, England where she earned a LL.B. (Honours) degree. Thereafter she completed the Bar Vocational Course at BPP Law School, England. Michelle also obtained an LL.M. degree specializing in corporate and commercial law from University College London, England. She was admitted to both the English Bar of England and Wales and The Bahamas Bar in 2002.

Toby specialises in contentious trusts and estates, usually of high-value with international elements. He has recently been involved in trust disputes before courts in England, The Bahamas, Bermuda, BVI, Cayman, Cyprus, Guernsey, Jersey, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and TCI.

Sean N. C. Moree K.C. is an experienced attorney who specializes in litigation and arbitration, particularly in regards to matters that involve trust, corporate, commercial, and insolvency issues. His practice also includes contested probate proceedings, employment disputes and private client work. In addition, Sean runs an active arbitration practice, and he regularly appears before tribunals, both in the Bahamas and abroad.

Adam has a broad commercial chancery practice acting in and advising on commercial and private wealth disputes both at home and abroad. He is “a top-notch advocate”, “great on his feet and on paper”, who “impresses sources with his courtroom advocacy skills”. Adam’s cross-disciplinary approach across Chambers’ main fields of practice means his commercial nous is frequently brought to bear in the private wealth sphere, while his deep knowledge of equitable, trust and corporate principles is widely sought out in commercial matters.

Nateisha L. Anderson-Bain is a Director of the STEP Bahamas Branch and a Partner in the Real Estate Group at Lennox Paton. She joined the firm in 2013 and specialises in representing purchasers and vendors in buying and selling residential and commercial property, as well as representing mortgagees and mortgagors in secured financing transactions.
Nateisha also focuses on resort and condominium development, including all aspects of acquisition, financing, regulatory approvals, master planning, sales programmes and the drafting of heads of agreements. Her practice extends generally to private client, corporate, commercial, estate planning and residency matters.

Where Are We Now? Where Do We Go From Here?

Aliya Allen is a Partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Services, Private Client, Trusts and Estates Practice Groups. Aliya re-joined Graham Thompson in February 2016, following four years as CEO and Executive Director of the Bahamas Financial Services Board.
Aliya’s practice is primarily focused in banking, investment funds, securities, securitisation and capital markets, technology, FinTech, blockchain and digital assets and regulatory matters such as FATCA, CRS, AML/CFT. She has played a leading role in the development and revision of industry defining legislation including the Investment Funds Act, 2019, the Investment Condominium (ICON) Act and in crafting and promoting policy initiatives on FinTech, Blockchain and digital assets.

Paul is a Former Chairman of The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB), past Chairman of The Bahamas branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and a member of the International Tax Planning Association (ITPA)

Niekia is the CEO and Executive Director of Bahamas Financial Services Board. She is an experienced senior executive with over two decades of experience in the financial services industry.
